I have often wondered why so little attention is given to low voltage (12-24-48 volt) power solar systems. All the modern conveniences you need (lighting, appliances, heat, entertainment, computers, etc.) are readily available from RV, off-road, camping and marine suppliers.
Thanks to hackaday, I found an article with detailed instructions on building such a system: https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2023/12/how-to-build-a-small-solar-power-system/
The system described could be a STEM class project. The article details the physics (W = V x A), electronics required (solar regulators, DC-to-DC converters, metering), and physical mounting. And their mounts are portable and can be used temporary.
Low Tech Magazine “walks their talk”. Their office and self-hosted website are solar powered and may be off-line. So, if their website is down, check the time and weather in their location: Barcelona, Spain.
